Colorado Watershed Assembly gets new executive director Jeff Crane was recently named executive director of the Colorado Watershed Assembly (CWA). Previously, Jeanne Beaudry held the post for a short time. Crane had been the president of the CWA and resigned to become executive director. The organization’s board of directors elected Richard Fox as its new president. Fox is also executive director of Trees, Water, and People. "After an extensive search and interview process, the CWA selected Jeff Crane as our new executive director because he knows the Colorado watershed community and he has the leadership skills and enthusiasm to propel the assembly to a whole new level of activity and accomplishment," Fox says.
Crane is a hydrologist specializing in stream restoration, irrigation diversion and habitat enhancement projects. As a founding member and the first executive director of the North Fork River Improvement Association, he developed a collaborative approach to stream bank stabilization and water conservation with the landowners and water users along the North Fork of the Gunnison River. In 2000, Crane received the University of Colorado Wirth Chair award in Environmental and Community Development Policy for collaborative restoration work on the North Fork. Two years later, the United States Environmental Protection Agency presented him with an Environmental Achievement Award for outstanding leadership in building a watershed partnership. He is a member of the Water Resources Subcommittee for Club 20, serves on the Gunnison Basin Roundtable for the Statewide Water Supply Initiative and remains active in local water issues. Crane is president of Crane Associates in Hotchkiss, Colo., where he lives with his wife and two children. He enjoys paddling sports, skiing and bicycling.
